What is a call center?

A call center is usually an offsite location where a company will have agents doing work that involves phone calls.  The work can be outbound (making calls) or inbound (receiving calls) and can cover many different functions from sales, to customer service to technical support.  Many modern call centers also handle data entry and processing which does not always require a phone.
